Austerity measures forced upon the police service, have caused a reduction in the police establishment. Police staffing levels have sadly dropped below a level where they are able to provide certain key services. Therefore, although the police recognise a need to investigate certain crimes, they struggle to do so, with often more violent crimes redirecting overstretched resources.
