The World Association of Detectives, www.WAD.net held its main annual conference in Stockholm recently. The events culminated at a prestigious banquet on Saturday 31st August 2019, where some 200 members and their guests from 35 countries gathered to enjoy the relaxed and entertaining part of the whole conference. But not all of the banquet is informal, the WAD like any other professional body, uses the grand dinner occasion to formally give recognition to deserving members and stakeholders for their part in the profession.
This year three Awards were presented, all which are worthy of the ABI’s recognition too.
A special mention here is made of the ABI past President and Life Member and past President of the WAD, Eric Shelmerdine who was presented with the The Norman J Sloan Memorial Award:

The Norman J. Sloan Memorial Award
The Norman J. Sloan Memorial Award, established in 1985, is The World Association of Detectives' highest honour. It is awarded to a W.A.D. member in recognition of their long and meritorious service, above and beyond the ordinary call of duty, for contributing to the betterment of the Investigative or Security Professions.
The Hal Lipset Memorial Truth in Action Award – was presented to May-Britt Ronnebro - International Police Association President of Sweden

The Hal Lipset Memorial Truth in Action Award
This originated in 1967 when it was introduced by the Officers & the WAD Board as the Truth in Action Award. It is presented to an individual for service to mankind by outstanding acts of compassion or heroism or leadership or achievement and service outside of WAD in the fields of private investigation, private security, criminal justice, jurisprudence or technical and scientific expertise. In 1998 the name of the Award was changed to the Hal Lipset Truth in Action Award in honour of Past President Hal Lipset.
Investigator of the Year
The Investigator of the Year Cup was presented “In Friendship” to the W.A.D. by Past President Zena Scott-Archer on behalf of the Association of British Investigators. It is awarded to a W.A.D. member who has demonstrated outstanding professional service or achievement in the calendar year, or who has carried out an outstanding investigation in the best traditions of the profession.
