|Aileen A Rivers 1931 - 2017|
The news of Aileen Rivers’ passing on 12 June was received with great sadness by the Governing Council and the Secretariat team.
Aileen was much admired and respected by everyone who came in contact with her.
Although more commonly known in ABI circles as the wife of past President, George Rivers who passed away only last December, Aileen was without doubt very much a part of the ABI’s foundation and played a key role in its infrastructure, in her own right, hence achieving the Honorary status over 15 years ago.
Aileen knew more about the ABI and its history than anyone ever has. She wrote ‘A Brief History of The Private Detective’ book that features a detailed account of the ABI and the key characters that have shaped the organization over its 100 plus years.
Aileen was a past General Secretary and together with George run the administration for several years in the early 2000s. She described her role modestly as running the well being of the organization yet with George, Aileen on more than one occasion stood-in to salvage the Association from one crisis or another.
Aileen started her working life as an assistant with a firm of solicitors in Portsmouth and moved on to run the PI business in Basingstoke with George on his retirement from the police.
Aileen’s Service of Thanksgiving will be on Tuesday 4th July at 2.00 pm
The service is to be held at:
Basingstoke Crematorium Stockbridge Road Basingstoke RG25 2BA
Our thoughts are with Aileen’s son Nigel and his family. Nigel advises that Aileen hated wreaths and bouquets at funerals and so requests instead any donations be sent to the Ghurkha Welfare Trust c/o Spencer & Peyton Funeral Directors, 380 Worthing Road, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG27 9DY in memory of the Ghurkhas who had they not rescued George from the jungle of the Malayan insurgency, she and George would never have met.
