In early November 2003 a 14 year old girl named Charlene Downes left her home in Blackpool and has never been accounted for since. Blackpool Police launched a major investigation, initially into what was a missing person case, including appeals on the national TV programme “Crimewatch” and other regional TV shows. After a period of intensive local enquiries 2 men were arrested and one subsequently charged with Charlene’s murder, the other with assisting to dispose of her body. In the absence of a body or any forensic evidence the trial against the two men collapsed in April this year (2008). This was a bitter blow to the parents of Charlene who were expecting at least some form of closure after what had been years of despair. Can you help? This is an appeal for help.
