Can you help?

In early November 2003 a 14 year old girl named Charlene Downes left her home in Blackpool and has never been accounted for since.

Blackpool Police launched a major investigation, initially into what was a missing person case, including appeals on the national TV programme “Crimewatch” and other regional TV shows.

After a period of intensive local enquiries 2 men were arrested and one subsequently charged with Charlene’s murder, the other with assisting to dispose of her body.

In the absence of a body or any forensic evidence the trial against the two men collapsed in April this year (2008).

This was a bitter blow to the parents of Charlene who were expecting at least some form of closure after what had been years of despair.
